  • Q – Can I feed Summit  Multi Mineral or Summit Littlix to horses, goats pigs, deer, alpacas or llamas?

  • A – Yes

  • Q – Can I feed Summit Multi Mineral, Summit Copper for cattle to Texel Sheep?

  • A – No

  • Q – Why not?

  • A – Texel sheep come from the Texel Islands off the coast of Holland where there is no natural copper in their diet, They have evolved with a copper intolerance. If fed copper in salt blocks or feed they can suffer liver failure and die usually in 2 to 3 weeks.

  • Q – What salt blocks can I feed Texels?

  • A – Summit Iodine Salt Blocks, Summit Magnesium Salt Blocks Salt Blocks, Summit Rock Block, Summit Harvest Block.

  • Q – Why are the Summit Multi Mineral Blocks a green colour?

  • A – Because the copper and or cobalt in the block has reacted to moisture in the air and has leached to the surface. They are safe to feed to stock.

  • Q – Do deer lick salt blocks?

  • A – Yes Summit Copper Salt Blocks but they are not big users. A herd will sometimes get through 2-3 blocks fairly rapidly and then not touch them for several months.

  • Q – What salt blocks are best for deer?

  • A – Summit Copper for Cattle. Deer are generally copper deficient and once the deficiency has been corrected with copper bullets, needles, etc, the block is used as a maintenance tool.

  • Q – Does Rock Salt last longer than pressed Summit Salt Blocks.

  • A – No, trials at both Ruakura Research Station outside Hamilton and Tara Hills at Omarama in the Central South Island, with no stock involved, proved pressed salt blocks weathered 2 – 4 times longer than a similar sized piece of Rock Salt. It is believed that Summit Salt Blocks may be more palatable than Rock Salt and are licked more, hence the perception that Rock Salt is more durable.

  • Q – What salt do you use for stacking hay?

  • A – Summit Ag Coarse

  • Q – What rate do you apply Summit Ag Coarse on hay bales when storing?

  • A – 1 – 2kg per 10 conventional size bales, sprinkled across each layer. Big Round bales, at a ratio as per 10 small bales equivalent, best applied to bales stacked on end. Big Square bales at a ratio as per 10 small bales equivalent.

  • Q – What rate do you apply salt when covering silage?

  • A – 4.5kg to 5kg per square metre.

  • Q – Can I use Ag Coarse to treat swimming pools?

  • A – No, we reccommend using Summit HydroSoft for water treatment

  • Q – What Summit product can I use for brine in a Dosatron System?

  • A – For straight brine solution, Summit Ag Fine.

  • Q – Can I feed Amaize to cows pre calving?

  • A – No because it contains calcium. And calcium causes problems during calving. Feed only to lactating cows.

  • Q – What Summit product can I use as a water softener?

  • A – Summit HydroSoft.

  • Q – Can I get extra minerals added to Summit Salt Blocks?

  • A – Yes, but there is an extra cost and 2 tonne minimum order. I will refer you to some one who will explain the procedure.

  • Q – What are the application rates for Summit Fertiliser Salt?

  • A – I will refer you to some one who will explain the procedure.

  • Q – Can I buy Summit Fertiliser Salt in Bulk Bags?

  • Q – Can I get mixed block pallets?

  • A – Yes.

WARNING: Confusion can occur between Summit Dairy Multi Mix and Summit General Purpose Multi Mineral loose mix and Summit Multi Mineral Salt blocks. Merchant orders should stipulate explicitly and whether blocks or bags. Check with Dominion Salt Territory Manager.
